France ranks 3rd in millionaires but lags other countries in the number of significant entrepreneurs.
According to the latest statistics from UBS (Global Wealth Report 2025), in 2024 France had nearly 2,897 $1million millionaires, placing it 3rd globally behind China (6,5 million) and the United States (23,8 million), but ahead of the United Kingdom (2,624 million) and Germany (2,689 million).
The study highlights that ‘Everyday Millionaires’ (‘EMILLI’) – households with a net worth between $1 and $5 million - have quadrupled since 2000.
Their increase is directly linked to soaring real estate prices and currency fluctuations. In France, this category is dominant.
However, regarding truly substantial fortunes in France, the situation is rather different: 51,300 French people have a fortune exceeding $10 million, compared to 69,800 in Germany, 55,700 in the United Kingdom, and 65,000 in Canada.
For fortunes exceeding $30 million, France has 24,900 ultra-rich individuals, whereas Germany has 29,000 and Canada 27,900.
The weight of real estate beyond $5 million tends to decrease while financial and entrepreneurial fortunes take over, where there is a significant lag in French entrepreneurial fortunes.
The ranking in 2024 was disrupted by the dramatic drop in the number of British millionaires. The latter now dropping to 6th place, while France moves to 3rd place.
Brexit is no stranger to this British retreat. Paris has become the destination of choice for a large number of the global banking elite who decided to leave London.
In one year, and particularly due to exchange rates, the number of French millionaires increased by 29,000 individuals, a growth of 1%. The United Kingdom saw its millionaire population decrease by 438,000 (-14.3%) individuals, and even Germany saw its millionaire population decrease by 146,000 individuals (-5.2%).
