The government has published its annual interactive map of average rent levels in all communes of France.
The aim of the review is to increase the transparency of the market so that, at a glance, it is possible to compare different rent levels right across the country.
The data is derived from rental advertisements for private unfurnished accommodation published in two major on-line sources, SeLoger and Leboncoin.
The map shows the rent per m2 for 1 to 3 roomed apartments and for houses. The condition or amenities of the properties are not taken into account.
Using the tool, it is possible to zoom in on any commune to find out the average rent payable for each property type. Where the commune does not have a sufficiently large rental base to obtain reliable data then a nearby commune with similar characteristics is used to establish the average rentals payable.
The map below shows average rents for houses across France, ranging from around €5m2 to €30m2. The darker colours indicate those with the highest rents. The figures are to the end of 2024.
